Rahul Gandhi Expresses Gratitude to Modi for Visiting Landslide-Hit Wayanad

Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has extended his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his decision to visit Wayanad, which has been severely impacted by recent landslides. In a post on X, Gandhi praised Modi’s visit as a “good decision” and expressed confidence that the prime minister, upon witnessing the devastation firsthand, would declare the disaster a ‘national disaster.’

The Prime Minister is scheduled to visit Wayanad on Saturday to assess the damage and review ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts. Modi’s itinerary includes an aerial survey of the affected areas, including Chooralmala, Mundakkai, Attamala, and Punchirimattom in Meppadi panchayat, where settlements have been destroyed. He is expected to arrive in Kannur at around 11 AM and will later visit the relief camp and hospital to meet survivors.

As of Friday, the official death toll from the landslides has reached 226, with many still unaccounted for. Modi will chair a review meeting to be briefed about the incident and the relief operations.

Rahul Gandhi, who previously represented Wayanad in the Lok Sabha and was re-elected from the constituency in the 2024 general elections, has been advocating for the landslides to be classified as a national disaster. His sister and Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi is set to contest the Wayanad by-poll.
