Army Stops Terrorist Infiltration Attempt Along LoC in Jammu and Kashmir; One Soldier Injured

Date:

The Indian Army successfully thwarted an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Battal sector of Jammu and Kashmir in the early hours of Tuesday. During a fierce gunfight with the infiltrating terrorists, one soldier sustained injuries.

The Indian Army’s White Knight Corps (16 Corps) reported on X (formerly Twitter) that the operation commenced around 3:00 AM. The troops engaged the terrorists with effective fire, resulting in a heavy exchange. “Alert troops foiled an infiltration bid by effectively engaging infiltrating terrorists with effective fire in the Battal Sector at 0300h. During the exchange of heavy fire, one braveheart has been injured. Operations are continuing,” the Army stated.

This incident marks the second attack in Jammu in the past 24 hours. On Monday, terrorists targeted the home of a Village Defence Guard (VDG) member in Gundha, Rajouri. The attack was aimed at Parshottam Kumar, recently honored with the Shaurya Chakra by President Droupadi Murmu. His uncle, Vijay Kumar, was injured, and a cow was killed in the ensuing gunfire. Quick action by a nearby Army unit prevented further casualties.

Jammu has experienced a significant uptick in terror activities this year, with 27 deaths reported, including 11 security personnel, a village defense guard, and five terrorists. Nearly a dozen attacks have occurred across six districts. On Thursday, two army personnel were injured in a gunfight with terrorists in Doda. Additionally, terrorists targeted a temporary camp at a government school in Jaddan Bata village, critically injuring a soldier who was airlifted to a hospital in Udhampur.

In a separate incident, security forces at a forward post near the LoC in Sunderbani sector of Rajouri district engaged suspicious movement late Wednesday night. A subsequent search on Thursday yielded no evidence of the reported activity. On July 16, four army personnel, including an officer, were killed in a gunfight with heavily armed terrorists in Doda district. A week ago, five soldiers were killed and five others injured in a terrorist ambush in Kathua district’s Machedi forest belt.
