Woman Killed in Mumbai Building Collapse Following Heavy Rain

Date:

An 80-year-old woman was killed, and four others sustained injuries when a section of a balcony from a four-storey residential building in south Mumbai collapsed on Saturday. The incident occurred at Rubinnisa Manzil, located on Sleater Road near the Grant Road railway station, around 11 a.m., according to fire brigade officials.

The building’s partial collapse resulted in the death of Veera Wadia, with the injured identified as Atul Shah (55), Niket Shah (26), Vijaykumar Nishad (25), and Siddhesh Palija (30). They were rushed to a nearby hospital, where Wadia was pronounced dead, and the others are currently receiving treatment.

The collapse involved a section of the balcony and parts of a slab from the second and third floors of the structure. Fire brigade teams conducted a search and rescue operation, which has now concluded. Dangerous portions of the building were removed to prevent further risks.

Rubinnisa Manzil, managed by the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA), was an old structure previously flagged as unsafe. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had earlier issued a notice declaring the building dangerous.
