Fire Breaks Out on Cargo Ship Near Goa, Coast Guard Mobilizes for Rescue

A massive fire erupted on a cargo ship approximately 102 nautical miles southwest of Goa, prompting a significant response from the Indian Coast Guard. The vessel, which was en route from Mundra to Colombo, Sri Lanka, encountered a severe blaze while navigating through rough seas and adverse weather conditions.

The Indian Coast Guard promptly diverted a nearby ship to assist with the emergency. The Coast Guard vessel has arrived at the scene and is actively engaged in firefighting efforts despite challenging conditions. In addition to this, two more Coast Guard ships have been dispatched to bolster the firefighting operations.

The ship in distress is reported to be carrying International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG), heightening the risk associated with the blaze. Explosions have been reported from the front part of the vessel, further complicating the rescue efforts.

In response to the escalating situation, the Coast Guard has also deployed a Dornier aircraft for aerial assessment of the fire and to coordinate the rescue operation from above.

As the Coast Guard continues its efforts to control the fire and manage the situation, there have been no immediate reports of casualties or environmental impact. The operation remains ongoing as the Coast Guard works to mitigate the risks and ensure the safety of the crew and the surrounding maritime area.
