The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has taken disciplinary action against Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal and Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Indira Mukherjee following a detailed complaint lodged by West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose. The action stems from allegations that the officers maligned the governor’s office by spreading misinformation and obstructing victims of post-poll violence from meeting him, despite official permissions.

According to a report by PTI, Governor CV Ananda Bose submitted a comprehensive dossier to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, detailing instances where Kolkata Police personnel allegedly acted in a manner “completely unbecoming of a public servant.” The governor accused Goyal and Mukherjee of disregarding established conduct rules and fostering baseless allegations from a woman employee during April-May 2024.

“The IPS officers’ conduct has not only besmirched the sanctity of the Governor’s office but also flagrantly flouted established norms,” a Raj Bhavan official stated, highlighting the seriousness of the allegations.

Copies of the complaint were also forwarded to the West Bengal state government on July 4, underscoring the formal initiation of disciplinary measures against the accused officers.

Meanwhile, the Calcutta High Court has scheduled a hearing on July 10 for a defamation suit filed by Governor CV Ananda Bose against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. This legal action follows allegations made by the chief minister suggesting that women were fearful of visiting the Raj Bhavan, prompting the governor’s defamation suit in late June.

The developments underscore escalating tensions between state administrative bodies and the governor’s office, amid allegations of misconduct and defamation.
