18th Lok Sabha's First Session Scheduled from June 24 to July 3

The inaugural session of the 18th Lok Sabha is set to commence on June 24, as announced by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju. The initial three days of this session will primarily focus on the swearing-in or affirmation of newly elected members of the Lok Sabha and the election of the House’s Speaker.

During the session, which will run until July 3, President Droupadi Murmu is expected to address a joint sitting of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha on June 27. This address is anticipated to outline the government’s agenda and roadmap for the next five years.

Mr. Rijiju shared this information through a post on social media platform X, highlighting the key activities planned for the session, including the election of the Speaker and discussions on the President’s address.

The 264th Session of the Rajya Sabha is also slated to commence on June 27 and conclude on July 3. Following the President’s address, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to introduce his council of ministers to Parliament. The subsequent debate on the Motion of Thanks on the President’s address is expected to witness a vigorous opposition challenging the NDA government on various fronts.

In response to this debate, the Prime Minister will address both Houses of Parliament, offering insights and responses to the points raised during the discussion on the Motion of Thanks on the President’s address.
