Modi’s First Decision After Swearing-In: Release of ₹20,000 Crore PM Kisan Nidhi Funds

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his first official action after the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government was sworn in on Sunday, has authorized the release of the next installment of PM Kisan cash transfer for farmers. This decision underscores the government’s commitment to the welfare of farmers following the NDA’s recent electoral victory.

On Monday, Modi signed the file to release the 17th installment of the PM Kisan Nidhi scheme, benefiting 93 million eligible farmers with a total disbursement of ₹20,000 crore. In a statement, Modi emphasized, “Ours is a government fully committed to Kisan Kalyan (farmers’ welfare). It is therefore fitting that the first file signed on taking charge is related to farmer welfare.”

Previously, on February 28, Modi had released the 16th installment of the PM-KISAN scheme, a cash-transfer initiative aimed at supporting poor farmers. The 15th installment saw nearly ₹18,000 crore distributed to 80 million farmers through direct benefit transfers.

The PM-KISAN scheme, launched on February 24, 2019, provides income support of ₹6,000 annually to farmers with valid enrollment. This amount is paid in three equal cash transfers of ₹2,000 each, disbursed every four months.

The government’s prompt action in continuing this welfare program highlights its ongoing focus on enhancing the economic well-being of farmers across the nation.
