Mumbai School Principal Fired for Liking Pro-Palestine Post

Parveen Shaikh, the principal of Somaiya School in Mumbai, has been dismissed from her position following controversy over her social media activity. Ms. Shaikh was terminated after liking a pro-Palestine post on a social media platform.

The decision to terminate Ms. Shaikh’s services was announced by the management of Somaiya School, citing concerns that her personal social media engagements were not aligned with the school’s values. According to the school’s statement shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, Ms. Shaikh’s activities were deemed to endorse “pro-Hamas, pro-Islamist, and anti-Hindu” views, which were considered to be in stark contrast to the school’s ethos of unity and inclusivity.

Ms. Shaikh had been associated with Somaiya School for approximately 12 years, serving as the principal for the past seven years. With over 30 years of experience in the education sector, her expertise includes coaching, mentoring, professional development of teachers, curriculum design, and school audits.

The decision to terminate Ms. Shaikh’s association with Somaiya Vidyavihar was made after careful consideration by the management to ensure that the school’s values and principles are upheld.
