In a recent development, the Delhi High Court has granted permission to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Manish Sisodia to meet his ailing wife, Seema, once a week while under the custody of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Seema Sisodia is currently battling an acute attack of multiple sclerosis, an autoimmune condition affecting the central nervous system.
The high court’s decision came during a hearing on Sisodia’s plea challenging a trial court’s order that denied him bail in a money laundering case. Sisodia had also requested the court to uphold the trial court’s earlier order allowing him to visit his wife weekly while in custody. The ED expressed no objection to this request, leading to the court’s approval.
Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma of the Delhi High Court has sought responses from both the ED and CBI regarding Sisodia’s bail plea. The matter is scheduled for further hearing on May 8, indicating ongoing legal proceedings in this case.
This move follows Sisodia’s recent denial of bail by a special court in separate cases related to alleged irregularities in the Delhi excise policy. The special court mentioned Sisodia’s alleged contribution, along with other accused, to delays in court proceedings concerning the excise policy matters.
Sisodia’s legal troubles began last year when the CBI arrested him on February 26, citing incriminating evidence in the excise policy case. Subsequently, he was sent to Tihar jail by Delhi’s Rouse Avenue court. Later, the Enforcement Directorate also arrested him from jail, adding to the legal complexities surrounding the AAP leader.
