In a recent development related to the alleged Delhi excise policy scam, BRS leader K Kavitha’s judicial custody has been extended till April 23 by a Delhi court. Kavitha, the daughter of former Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao, was arrested in connection with a corruption case linked to the liquor policy.

Kavitha was arrested from Tihar Jail, where she was lodged after being arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) presented her before the court after the expiration of her three-day police custody and requested judicial custody.

During the court proceedings, the CBI stated that further custodial interrogation of Kavitha was not necessary. However, Kavitha’s legal representatives opposed the plea, arguing that there were insufficient grounds to keep her in custody as she was no longer required for interrogation.

The CBI officials had previously questioned Kavitha inside the prison based on permission from a special court. The interrogation focused on WhatsApp chats retrieved from co-accused Buchi Babu’s phone and documents related to a land deal. These documents allegedly indicated a payment of ₹100 crore to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) as kickbacks to influence the excise policy in favor of a liquor lobby.

Kavitha, aged 46, was initially arrested by the ED from her residence in Banjara Hills, Hyderabad, on March 15. She has been in judicial custody since then, as part of the ongoing investigation into the liquor policy scam.

The extension of Kavitha’s judicial custody highlights the ongoing legal proceedings and investigations surrounding the corruption allegations related to the Delhi excise policy.
