Bengaluru’s Electronic City has been placed on high alert after reports of a leopard sighting in the vicinity. Forest officials are actively working to locate the leopard and ensure its safe rescue, preventing any potential threat to nearby residential areas.
The incident unfolded on a Saturday when several videos began circulating on social media, suggesting that a leopard was roaming in Bengaluru’s Whitefield area. However, the forest department clarified that the actual location was Singasandra near Electronic City, not Whitefield.
Chief Conservator of Forests (CCF) S S Lingaraja confirmed the ongoing efforts to locate the leopard, stating, “Our staff is trying to find the leopard, which was reportedly spotted in the city. The place in the video appears to be Singasandra near Bannerghatta and not Whitefield.”
The proximity to Bannerghatta National Park, known for its abundant wildlife, adds to the urgency of the situation. Electronic City is also home to major tech firms such as Infosys and Biocon, making the safety of the local population a top priority.
This incident is not the first of its kind, as there have been previous instances of leopard sightings near Electronic City and various parts of Bengaluru South. In January, Bangalore University issued a circular cautioning its staff and students living on the campus to restrict their movement at night following a leopard sighting on the campus.
Leopard sightings have also been reported in areas like Kengeri, Devanahalli, Kumbalagodu, and Kodipalya in the past. Forest officials remain vigilant, taking swift action to protect both wildlife and residents in the region.
