“IRS Officer Rahul Navin Takes Charge as In-Charge Director of Enforcement Directorate”

Date:

IRS Officer Rahul Navin Appointed as In-Charge Chief of Enforcement Directorate

Rahul Navin, a seasoned officer of the Indian Revenue Service (IRS), has assumed the role of in-charge director of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) following the conclusion of the tenure of the outgoing director, Sanjay Kumar Mishra.

In accordance with an official order, Rahul Navin, a 1993-batch IRS officer, has been entrusted with this responsibility. He will serve as the in-charge director until the appointment of a regular director or until further instructions are issued. Presently, Mr. Navin holds the position of the ED’s special director.

The official order also noted, “The President is pleased to order the cessation of tenure of Sanjay Kumar Mishra… as Director of Enforcement in the Enforcement Directorate on 15.09.2023.” This decision follows a July ruling by the Supreme Court, which granted an extension of tenure to the then-ED chief, Sanjay Kumar Mishra, until September 15. However, the Supreme Court made it unequivocally clear that no further extensions would be permitted.

The Supreme Court’s decision to restrict further extensions was preceded by its declaration that two notifications issued by the Central government, granting Mishra year-long extensions as the head of the Enforcement Directorate, were “illegal.”

With Rahul Navin now serving as the in-charge director, the Enforcement Directorate will continue its pivotal role in enforcing economic laws and regulations in the country, ensuring compliance with financial and economic norms. Navin’s extensive experience and expertise in financial matters are expected to contribute significantly to the ED’s mission during his tenure as in-charge chief.
