A strike has been declared by private taxi and bus associations in Bengaluru for September 11 (Monday), resulting in the likely shutdown of most private transportation services in the city. This strike comes amid ongoing concerns from private transport providers about the impact of the Shakti scheme, which offers free bus travel for women in Karnataka. They have requested inclusion in the scheme and compensation for their losses.
For many residents, Monday is a working day, including IT employees and commuters, making transportation crucial. In response, the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) is planning to deploy extra buses to meet the expected demand during the strike.
What Will Be Closed:
- Private Airport Taxis: All private airport taxi services will be unavailable. Travelers heading to the airport are advised to make their own arrangements or use BMTC’s Vayu Vajra bus services.
- Ola, Uber, and Other Cabs: App-based cab services like Ola and Uber have announced their support for the strike and will not be operational on Monday.
- Autorickshaws: Auto rickshaw unions are also participating in the strike, affecting the crucial part of Bengaluru’s commuting system.
- Private Buses: Private buses traveling within the state from Bengaluru will not operate on Monday.
What Will Operate:
- Emergency Services: All emergency service-related vehicles, including ambulances and pharmaceutical transport vehicles, will remain operational.
- Food and Delivery Vehicles: Food, grocery, and other daily essential transport services will continue without interruptions.
- Public Transport: Public transportation, including BMTC buses and metro trains, will operate normally without disruptions. The BMTC is planning to run additional buses to accommodate the increased demand on Monday.
As Bengaluru residents prepare for the strike, the city’s transportation landscape will undergo significant changes for the day, with commuters advised to plan their travel accordingly.
