In yet another alarming instance of road rage in Bengaluru, a scientist found himself in a life-threatening situation as he was chased and attacked by a group of assailants in the Rautanahalli area. The scientist reported that his car was vandalized by the miscreants before they pursued him, brandishing swords. The incident occurred on August 24 at around 12:45 AM. Ashutosh Singh, a scientist associated with the Centre for Nano and Soft Matter Sciences, took to the social media platform X to recount the harrowing encounter.

Describing his ordeal, Singh wrote, “A narrow escape from local goons on Aug 24, 12:45 AM at Rauthanahalli Main road. They tried stopping my car, chased me with swords, shattering back glass. Traumatized by the delayed police response. Seeking justice, lodging FIR at Madanayakanahalli PS today. Urgent action is needed.”

Karnataka’s Additional Director General of Police (Traffic and Safety), Alok Kumar, regarded the incident as “very serious.” He instructed officials to take stringent measures against the accused, emphasizing the gravity of the situation.

Road rage incidents have been escalating in Bengaluru, prompting action from law enforcement. Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda announced the initiation of a rowdy sheet against culprits involved in such incidents. The rise in such incidents has been witnessed on social media platforms, often captured by dash cameras inside vehicles.

Responding to queries from users on platform X, Dayananda assured citizens that the police are closely monitoring troublemakers engaged in these activities. “Incidents of road rage are being dealt with very sternly. Wherever such incidents are reported, police have detected the cases and apprehended the culprits. Besides, rowdy sheets are being opened in concerned police stations on such hooligans so as to keep track of them. There is ZERO TOLERANCE for road rage incidents in Bengaluru City,” he stated through a tweet.

Furthermore, the police commissioner urged people to call 112, the emergency hotline, in case of such dire situations. “I appeal to citizens to dial #Namma112 in case they are caught up in such a situation. Be rest assured, we are just a call away,” he added.

As incidents of road rage continue to jeopardize public safety and invoke fear, the city’s law enforcement authorities are determined to uphold stringent measures and ensure the safety and security of its citizens on the roads.
