Mamata Banerjee Slams BJP Over Manipur Violence and Women's Safety Issues, Announces Protests in Delhi

In a fiery address during the Trinamool Congress’s ‘Martyr’s Day’ rally on Friday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee vehemently criticized the BJP for its handling of the situation in Manipur and its response to recent women’s safety cases.

Banerjee accused the BJP of hypocrisy, stating that while they promoted the ‘Beti Bachao’ (Save the Daughter) campaign, their actions now reflect the opposite. “You (BJP) gave ‘Beti Bachao’ slogan, where is your slogan now?” she questioned. “We express our solidarity with the people of Manipur. Today, Manipur is burning, the whole country is burning.”

Referring to the Bilkis Bano case, where the accused were released on bail, and the recent wrestlers’ sexual harassment case, where the perpetrator was also granted bail, Banerjee expressed her outrage. She declared that the women of the country would respond during the upcoming elections by rejecting the BJP’s politics.

Addressing tens of thousands of Trinamool Congress workers from various regions of West Bengal who gathered in Kolkata for the ‘Martyr’s Day’ rally, Banerjee emphasized that her party doesn’t seek power for its own sake. “We just want this BJP regime to go,” she asserted.

Furthermore, Banerjee announced the party’s plan to stage a massive protest in Delhi on Gandhi Jayanti, October 2nd. The protest aims to challenge the BJP-led Central government’s decision to block funds for Bengal under schemes like MGNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act). Senior TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee also echoed these sentiments and highlighted the formation of a new opposition alliance called I.N.D.I.A, which is gaining momentum and aims to secure victory in the 2024 elections.

“The Centre, because of vendetta politics, has stopped funds for Bengal,” Abhishek Banerjee stated. “On October 2, we will organize a protest outside Krishi Bhavan.”

Mamata Banerjee’s vocal stance against the BJP and her commitment to addressing issues of violence and women’s safety have ignited debates across political circles. The rally served as a platform to unite the Trinamool Congress workers and build momentum for their planned protest in the national capital.

As the political landscape continues to evolve, the nation waits to see how the Opposition alliance, I.N.D.I.A, and Mamata Banerjee’s renewed determination will impact the course of Indian politics in the coming years.
