Bengaluru Traffic Police to Notify Tech Firms on Employee Traffic Violations

Bengaluru’s bustling tech hub faces a new enforcement strategy as the city’s traffic police take an innovative approach to tackle violations among tech employees. In a bid to enhance road safety awareness and curb traffic rule infractions, the Bengaluru Traffic Police have initiated a unique pilot program targeting the city’s Information Technology corridor.

The initiative, currently operating within the east division of the city’s traffic police, focuses on monitoring traffic violations along the Outer Ring Road and Whitefield areas. Specifically, this drive aims to address the concerning trend of tech professionals breaching traffic regulations, primarily by jumping signals or exceeding speed limits in a rush to reach their destinations.

Kuldeep Kumar Jain, the Deputy Commissioner of Police for the East Division – Traffic, explained, “If any IT company employees are caught violating traffic rules, information about the specific violation will be communicated directly to their respective companies via email or WhatsApp. This measure intends to enhance their awareness and consciousness regarding traffic regulations and road safety while commuting.”

This effort emerges from the observed surge in traffic violations within the tech community, prompting authorities to take proactive steps toward enforcement and education. When an individual is apprehended for a traffic violation, the police verify their identification card to ascertain their employer. Subsequently, a list of violations by these riders is forwarded to their respective companies, serving as a cautionary measure.

While the initiative currently operates in the east division, authorities plan to expand it citywide if substantial improvements in compliance are observed along the IT corridor. Moreover, the traffic police have encouraged tech firms to actively engage in promoting road safety by organizing awareness campaigns or inviting police sessions on traffic rules within their premises.

The overarching goal of this unique endeavor remains centered on fostering a culture of compliance with traffic laws among Bengaluru’s tech workforce. As authorities aim to reinforce adherence to road regulations, this initiative stands as a proactive step towards a safer and more responsible commuting environment in the city’s tech epicenter.
