In a successful operation, the Indian Army neutralized three terrorists attempting to infiltrate along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Keran sector of Kupwara district, Jammu and Kashmir, on Sunday. The anti-infiltration operation, codenamed Dhanush II, was launched by security forces earlier in the day to thwart the infiltration attempt.
Chinar Corps of the Indian Army confirmed the operation and the elimination of the terrorists on X, stating, “03x Terrorists have been eliminated in the ongoing anti-infiltration operation on the #LoC in Keran Sector, along with recovery of weapons and other war-like stores.” The operation was ongoing at the time of the last reports.
Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed a surge in infiltration attempts and terrorist attacks in recent weeks. Over the past month, terrorists targeted four locations in Kathua, Doda, Reasi, and Udhampur districts, resulting in the deaths of 15 people, including nine pilgrims and six security personnel, while injuring 46 others.
On June 9, coinciding with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony, terrorists attacked a bus carrying pilgrims in Reasi, causing it to plunge into a gorge and killing nine individuals. Earlier this month, on July 8, five soldiers were killed and eight sustained injuries when heavily armed terrorists ambushed an Army patrolling party in the Badnota area of Kathua. Additionally, six terrorists were neutralized in separate encounters in Kulgam district.
The recent infiltration attempt occurred amid the annual Amarnath Yatra, which sees thousands of devotees from across the country visiting the Jammu base camp daily. The 52-day pilgrimage commenced on June 29, following the traditional 48-km route from Nunwan in Pahalgam in south Kashmir’s Anantnag and the 14-km shorter but steeper Baltal route in Ganderbal district of central Kashmir.
