The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has accused the Tihar jail administration of denying insulin and consultations with his doctor to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who has Type-2 diabetes. AAP alleges that this denial is part of a conspiracy towards Kejriwal’s “slow death” in jail. The party spokesperson cited blood sugar readings and criticized the BJP, Centre, and Delhi LG for their alleged role in this situation.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has raised serious concerns about the health and treatment of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in Tihar jail. Kejriwal, who has Type-2 diabetes, has reportedly been denied insulin and consultations with his family doctor, sparking accusations of a conspiracy aimed at his “slow death” inside the jail.
In a press conference, AAP spokesperson Saurabh Bharadwaj highlighted the Chief Minister’s requests for insulin and video conferencing with his doctor, which have allegedly been denied by the jail administration. Bharadwaj expressed deep concern over Kejriwal’s health, stating that he has been suffering from diabetes for over two decades.
The controversy escalated when Senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, representing Kejriwal, stated that the Chief Minister had not received insulin to control his sugar levels since his arrest. Singhvi termed this situation as “shocking” and “alarming,” emphasizing the seriousness of Kejriwal’s medical needs.
The AAP further criticized the Tihar administration, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Central government, and the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi for their alleged role in denying insulin to Kejriwal. They accused these authorities of conspiring against Kejriwal’s well-being while he is in jail.
Responding to claims by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) that Kejriwal was consuming high-sugar foods like mangoes and sweets despite his diabetes, the AAP refuted these allegations. They asserted that Kejriwal’s diet was in line with his doctor’s recommendations, pointing out that only a few meals out of many sent from home contained mangoes.
The AAP also highlighted that the court had allowed Kejriwal to use a machine in jail to monitor his daily blood sugar levels, indicating efforts to manage his health within the constraints of the jail environment. However, they reiterated their concerns about a larger conspiracy to harm Kejriwal’s health.
Saurabh Bharadwaj, who also serves as Delhi’s Health Minister, expressed fears that denying Kejriwal proper medical care could lead to severe organ damage, requiring extensive treatment once he is released from jail. The AAP’s allegations have drawn attention to the complex intersection of legal, medical, and political issues surrounding Kejriwal’s incarceration.
