“Telangana Minister KTR Criticizes Karnataka Congress for Alleged ‘Election Tax’ to Fund Telangana Elections”

Date:

Telangana Minister KT Rama Rao Accuses Karnataka Congress of Levying 'Election Tax' to Fund Telangana Congress

Telangana Minister and leader of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), KT Rama Rao (KTR), has strongly criticized the Congress party’s alleged imposition of an “election tax” on builders in Bengaluru. He asserted that this tax was aimed at funding the Telangana Congress in the forthcoming elections.

According to reports, Karnataka’s newly elected Congress government has initiated the collection of a political “election tax” of ₹500 per square foot from builders in Bengaluru. This move, as claimed by a BRS (Bharatiya Raitala Samithi) leader, is intended to support the Congress unit in Telangana during the upcoming electoral campaigns.

In response to these allegations, KTR took to social media and stated, “Old habits die hard. The grand old party and its rich legacy of Scams is legendary, and that’s why it’s been rechristened Scamgress.” He emphasized that regardless of the funds invested, the people of Telangana could not be deceived, urging them to reject what he referred to as “SCAMGRESS” in Telangana.

Earlier on September 26, KTR had criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his remarks about the formation of Telangana. He called on the Prime Minister to apologize to the people of the state in light of his comments. PM Modi was scheduled to address a public meeting organized by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Mahabubnagar on October 1, ahead of the forthcoming Assembly elections in Telangana.

The upcoming Telangana Assembly elections are expected to feature a triangular contest between the BJP, the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), and the Congress. These elections hold significant importance as they will serve as a litmus test for the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) before the crucial 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Furthermore, several other Indian states, including Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Mizoram, are also set to conduct elections later this year, adding to the political dynamism and challenges faced by various political parties across the country.
