The death toll from a horrific tanker-fire incident in Rajasthan has risen to 19 after another victim succumbed to severe burn injuries on Thursday. The tragic incident occurred on December 20, when an LPG tanker collided with a truck on the Jaipur-Ajmer highway, igniting a massive fireball that engulfed the highway in flames.
The victim, identified as Lalaram (28), died while undergoing treatment at the Sawai Man Singh (SMS) hospital in Jaipur. Dr. Sushil Bhati, the SMS hospital superintendent, confirmed that Lalaram, who suffered 60% burn injuries, passed away after being on a ventilator. His body was moved to the mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
Lalaram, a security guard working at an IT company in the Mahindra SEZ, was on his way to work on his motorcycle when the disaster struck. His friend, Ramavtar, shared that Lalaram had a morning shift that day and was residing in the Kanota area on the Agra highway, having moved there from Sanganer. He was unmarried at the time of his death.
In total, 11 individuals lost their lives on the day of the incident, with four more victims passing away from their injuries in the following days. Currently, 11 others remain hospitalized at SMS hospital, with two to three expected to be discharged shortly. Three of the patients are still on ventilator support.
The devastating fire, sparked by the collision of the LPG tanker and a truck, turned a section of the Jaipur-Ajmer highway into an inferno, leaving numerous people injured and causing extensive damage to vehicles. Emergency response teams worked quickly to contain the fire, but the severity of the blaze led to significant casualties.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the cause of the collision, as the community mourns the loss of lives in this tragic event.
