7 Maoists Killed in Telangana's Mulugu District in Major Encounter

In a significant operation, security forces eliminated seven Maoists in Telangana’s Mulugu district early Sunday morning. The encounter, led by the elite anti-Maoist Greyhounds forces, is the first major clash in the area in recent years.

Encounter Details

The operation unfolded around 5:30 AM in the Chalpaka forest, where the Greyhounds unit spotted a group of Maoists. Authorities reported that the security forces ordered the insurgents to surrender. However, the Maoists responded with gunfire, prompting a retaliatory attack.

Among the seven Maoists killed, the most prominent was 35-year-old Bhadru alias Kursam Mangu alias Papanna, identified as the commander of the CPI (Maoist) Yellandu-Narsampet area committee and a member of the Telangana State Committee.

Other deceased insurgents include:

  • Egolapu Mallaiah (43 years)
  • Mussaki Deval (22 years)
  • Mussaki Jamuna (23 years)
  • Jai Singh (25 years)
  • Kishore (22 years)
  • Kamesh (23 years)

Seizure of Weapons

Post-encounter, the security forces recovered a cache of sophisticated weapons, including AK-47, G3, and INSAS rifles, along with explosives. The recovered items have been seized for further investigation.

Context of Maoist Activities

This encounter follows recent incidents of violence in the area. On November 21, Maoists allegedly killed two tribal men, Uika Ramesh and Uika Arjun, accusing them of being police informers. Ramesh served as the secretary of the Peruru Gram Panchayat. A note found with the victims’ bodies claimed they were passing information to state authorities.

Sunday’s operation is being viewed as a significant blow to Maoist efforts to reorganize and revive their activities in the region. Authorities have intensified their efforts to curb Maoist insurgency and ensure safety in the affected areas.
