Udaipur Administration Demolishes Home of Student Accused in Stabbing Incident, Sparks Communal Tensions

In a dramatic escalation of tensions, the Udaipur district administration demolished the house of a student accused of stabbing his classmate, an act that has sparked significant communal unrest in the city. The incident led to widespread protests, property damage, and a temporary suspension of mobile internet services.

A video shared by news agency PTI captured the moment a bulldozer razed the home of the accused student. Both students involved in the stabbing are minors, with the injured student currently receiving treatment at the district hospital. The accused remains in detention as authorities investigate the matter.

The stabbing incident occurred on August 16, 2024, at a school in Udaipur, prompting immediate action from the local administration. Following the attack, the district collector, Arvind Poswal, arranged for a team of three doctors to be flown in from Jaipur to assist with the injured student’s treatment.

In response to the escalating situation, divisional commissioner Rajendra Bhatt ordered a 24-hour suspension of mobile internet services starting from 10 PM on August 16. This measure aimed to curb the spread of misinformation and prevent further unrest in Udaipur and surrounding areas, including Bedla, Badgaon, and Eklingpura.

The incident has led to significant unrest in the city. Protestors, including members of Hindu outfits, clashed with police, resulting in damage to vehicles and public property. Mobs set fire to cars and hurled stones at various locations, including a shopping mall. Markets in several areas of Udaipur, such as Bapu Bazar and Hathipole, were closed due to safety concerns.

Authorities, including district officials and local MPs, convened to address the situation and discuss measures to restore order. Public representatives and law enforcement agencies have urged citizens to remain calm and avoid spreading rumors.
