“Demolition of Jagan Reddy Party’s Guntur Central Office by Civic Authorities”

Date:

In a dramatic turn of events, the under-construction central office of the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) in Tadepalli, Guntur district, was demolished by municipal authorities early Saturday morning. The demolition, conducted by the Mangalagiri-Tadepalli Municipal Corporation (MTMC) using excavators and bulldozers, came following allegations of illegal construction on land owned by the irrigation department.

The Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) had previously issued a notice to the YSRCP regarding the alleged unauthorized construction. The YSRCP had challenged the notice in the High Court on Friday, obtaining a temporary halt on any demolition activities. However, the MTMC proceeded with the demolition, prompting strong reactions from the YSRCP leadership.

According to CRDA and MTMC officials, the YSRCP office was being built on land previously used for a boatyard, leased under contentious circumstances during the tenure of the previous YSRCP government led by Jagan Mohan Reddy. Allegations also surfaced that the construction proceeded without obtaining necessary approvals from CRDA and MTMC.

Former Chief Minister and YSRCP President, Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, condemned the demolition as an act of political vendetta orchestrated by the ruling TDP-led government. In a statement on social media, he accused Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu of authoritarian behavior, asserting that the demolition disregarded the High Court’s orders.

Reddy further criticized Naidu’s government, alleging that these actions were indicative of a dictatorial regime. Despite the setback, he affirmed the YSRCP’s determination to continue its fight for the people’s rights. Reddy called upon democratic forces across the nation to denounce what he termed as Naidu’s oppressive tactics.

The incident has sparked controversy and raised questions about the legality of land acquisitions and construction activities, adding fuel to the ongoing political rivalry in Andhra Pradesh.
