The father of the teenager involved in the tragic Pune Porsche crash, Vishal Agarwal, has been granted bail in a case related to the Juvenile Justice Act. The incident, which occurred on May 19 in Pune’s Kalyani Nagar, resulted in the deaths of two engineers after being hit by a Porsche allegedly driven by Agarwal’s 17-year-old son.
Vishal Agarwal, the owner of reality firm Brahma Group, was arrested on May 21 and granted bail specifically in one case concerning the Juvenile Justice Act, according to reports from PTI. He faced charges under relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act (MVA) and the Juvenile Justice Act (JJA) for “failing to do his duty as a guardian” after it was revealed that the Porsche, purchased for his son in March, had not been registered due to unpaid road tax amounting to ₹44 lakh. Additionally, his son did not possess a valid driving license at the time of the incident.
The tragic accident claimed the lives of Anish Awadhiya and Ashwini Costa, both software engineers from Madhya Pradesh. Investigations revealed that the 17-year-old was allegedly driving under the influence when the Porsche collided with them in the early hours of May 19.
Recently, the Pune court had ordered 14-day judicial custody for the teenager’s parents and another accused, Ashpak Makandar, amidst allegations of tampering with blood samples. Makandar is suspected of facilitating the switching of blood samples to falsely indicate that the teenager was not intoxicated during the accident. Reports suggest that the teenager’s mother’s blood samples were used as a substitute.
Initially granted bail by the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB), the teenager was later remanded to an observation home after a nationwide outcry and subsequent police appeals to the board.
The case has sparked widespread debate and calls for stricter enforcement of road safety measures, highlighting the tragic consequences of underage driving and the responsibilities of guardians in preventing such incidents.
