
Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport witnessed a full emergency response today following a bomb threat discovered onboard a Vistara flight originating from Paris. The threat, found in a handwritten note on an airsickness bag, prompted immediate action from the flight crew, who promptly informed authorities.
Vistara Airlines confirmed the incident, stating that the flight, designated as UK 024, had departed from Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport with 294 passengers and 12 crew members. Upon the crew’s report of the threat at 10:08 am, the plane safely landed at Mumbai’s airport at 10:19 am.
In a statement, a spokesperson for Vistara Airlines addressed the security concern, stating, “We confirm that a security concern has been noted by our staff while onboard Vistara flight UK 024 operating from Paris to Mumbai on 2 June 2024.” The airline affirmed that they followed protocol by promptly informing relevant authorities and are cooperating fully with security agencies for necessary checks.
This incident follows a similar hoax bomb threat on an IndiGo flight from Varanasi to New Delhi. The caller, claiming her husband carried a bomb, was later found to be mentally unstable. The passenger, Vimal Kumar, underwent interrogation, and legal actions are underway regarding the matter.
In response to the IndiGo flight incident, the airline stated that flight 6E 2232 had received a bomb threat, leading to the implementation of security protocols upon landing in Delhi. Passengers were safely disembarked, and the aircraft underwent inspection as per security agency guidelines.
