A 25-year-old Air India pilot, Srishti Tuli, was found dead in her rented flat in the Kanakia Rainforest building in Marol, Andheri, on Monday. Police suspect she died by suicide, allegedly hanging herself with a data cable.
The Powai Police have arrested her boyfriend, Aditya Pandit, 27, on charges of abetment to suicide under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The arrest follows a complaint filed by Tuli’s family, alleging harassment and public humiliation by Pandit.
Incident Details
Tuli’s body was discovered after Pandit, who was en route to Delhi by road, rushed back to Mumbai upon receiving a distress call from her. According to the police, Tuli informed him of her intent to end her life. When he reached her flat, he found the door locked from inside. With the help of a locksmith, he gained entry and discovered her hanging.
The young pilot was immediately taken to SevenHills Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
Allegations of Harassment
Tuli’s uncle, in his complaint, claimed that Pandit often harassed and humiliated her in public. He further alleged that Pandit pressured her to change her dietary preferences, asking her to stop consuming non-vegetarian food.
Tuli and Pandit reportedly met two years ago while pursuing a commercial pilot course in Delhi. They had been in a relationship since and had moved to Mumbai in June 2023.
Police Investigation
While no suicide note was recovered from the scene, preliminary investigations revealed a history of distress in their relationship. Pandit has been remanded in police custody until November 29 as authorities continue their probe.
This tragic incident has once again highlighted the need for mental health support and awareness about the pressures faced by young professionals.
