A tragic incident unfolded early Sunday morning in Worli when a BMW car collided with a two-wheeler, resulting in the death of a woman and leaving her husband injured. The luxury car, allegedly driven by Mihir Shah, the son of a Shiv Sena leader associated with CM Eknath Shinde, has prompted a police investigation amid Shah’s current status as a fugitive.
Kaveri Nakhwa, 45, was riding pillion with her husband Pradip on Annie Besant Road when the BMW reportedly lost control around 5:30 am, according to Worli police reports. Kaveri fell from the bike due to the impact and tragically succumbed to her injuries upon arrival at the hospital. Pradip Nakhwa, who was driving the two-wheeler, sustained injuries but has since been discharged after medical treatment.
Mihir Shah, aged 23, is identified as the driver of the BMW during the incident. Reports indicate that Shah, along with Rajrishi Rajendra Singh Bidawat, was returning from a late-night drive at Marine Drive when the accident occurred. However, Shah is currently evading authorities, prompting a search operation by Mumbai police.
Authorities are investigating whether Shah was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. Medical tests and blood samples are planned to determine Shah’s state during the crash.
In response to the incident, a case has been registered based on Pradeep Nakhwa’s statement under several sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Motor Vehicles Act. These include Sections 105 (Driving without a license), 281 (Rash driving or riding on a public way), 125(b) (Neglecting traffic signs), 238 (Causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), 324(4) (Rash or negligent driving), 184 (Driving dangerously), 134(a) (Rash or negligent driving resulting in death), 134(b) (Rash or negligent driving causing grievous hurt), and 187 (Punishment for causing death by negligence).
Following the incident, the BMW involved has been confiscated and taken to the police station as part of ongoing investigations. Meanwhile, Rajesh Shah, father of Mihir Shah and a prominent figure in the Shiv Sena, is reportedly being questioned by authorities.
Rajrishi Rajendra Singh Bidawat, who was also present in the BMW during the accident, has been detained for further interrogation to ascertain the sequence of events leading up to the fatal collision.
