In a significant operation against Maoist insurgents, security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada district eliminated seven Maoists in an encounter along the inter-district border involving District Reserve Group (DRG) personnel. The operation, which occurred near the Narayanpur, Dantewada, and Kondagaon districts, resulted in the recovery of weapons from the encounter site, as confirmed by Narayanpur Superintendent of Police Prabhat Kumar.
The encounter unfolded as a joint team comprising DRG units from Narayanpur, Kondagaon, Dantewada, and Jagdalpur, along with the 45th Battalion of ITBP, conducted an anti-Maoist operation in the Abujhmad area. Maoist forces initiated an attack on the security forces, prompting a swift and effective retaliation from the DRG personnel and ITBP unit.
During the engagement, three Jawans of the Narayanpur DRG sustained injuries and were promptly airlifted to a hospital from the Gobel area under the East Bastar Division for medical treatment.
This development underscores the ongoing efforts by security forces to combat Maoist extremism in Chhattisgarh, a longstanding challenge for both state and central governments. The region’s dense forests and rugged terrain have historically provided a conducive environment for Maoist groups to operate and establish their presence in the state.
Recent encounters and operations, including the neutralization of Maoists in Durmi village and Jappemarka-Kamkanar forest, highlight the intensified efforts by security forces to curtail Maoist activities in the region. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, in a previous statement, expressed confidence that decisive measures taken by the government would lead to the eradication of the Maoist problem within the next two to three years.
Mr. Shah also noted the progress made in areas previously affected by Maoist extremism, with welfare schemes reaching tribal communities that had long been underserved. While challenges persist in some districts of Chhattisgarh, the government’s focused approach and sustained operations aim to eliminate the Maoist threat and ensure peace and security in the region.
