Roof Section Collapses in Delhi's Ambience Mall, No Injuries Reported

In a concerning development, a portion of the roof collapsed at Ambience Mall located in South Delhi’s Vasant Kunj area early on Monday. Fortunately, authorities have reported no injuries as a result of the incident, but an investigation is currently underway to ascertain the cause of the collapse.

According to the police, the collapse occurred in the central hall of Ambience Mall, resulting in a significant portion of the roof falling onto the floor and escalators. A video circulating purportedly captures the aftermath of the incident, showing debris strewn across multiple floors of the mall and covering escalators. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest) Rohit Meena clarified that the collapsed section was a side-pop elevation near the escalators. The incident was reported around 12:47 am, and no injuries have been reported thus far.

Delhi Fire Services Chief Atul Garg stated that they did not receive any notification or call regarding the incident. Consequently, the police are spearheading the investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the collapse.

Coincidentally, the collapse at Ambience Mall transpired on the same day as another unfortunate incident at Blue Sapphire Mall in Greater Noida. There, ceiling grills collapsed, tragically claiming the lives of two individuals—a shopkeeper and his worker—who were crushed under the debris as they were walking towards an escalator inside the mall. The deceased hailed from Vijaynagar, Ghaziabad.

As authorities delve into the matter, concerns regarding the safety and structural integrity of commercial establishments have been heightened. Both incidents underscore the imperative for stringent safety measures and regular inspections to prevent such tragic occurrences in the future.
