The primary accused in the high-profile murder of former Maharashtra minister and NCP leader Baba Siddique was arrested today in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, after being on the run for several weeks. Shivkumar, one of the three shooters involved in the assassination, was attempting to flee to Nepal when he was apprehended in a joint operation between Uttar Pradesh and Mumbai police.
Shivkumar’s arrest marks a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the murder, which shocked the political landscape in Maharashtra. The murder of Baba Siddique, which occurred last month, has raised suspicions of organized crime and gang involvement.
Sources indicate that Shivkumar was attempting to cross into Nepal, likely to evade capture after the crime. During interrogation, the arrested accused reportedly admitted to being affiliated with the Lawrence Vishnoi gang. He further disclosed that the murder was executed on the orders of Anmol Vishnoi, who is currently believed to be living abroad.
In connection with the case, four individuals—Anurag Kashyap, Gyan Prakash Tripathi, Akash Srivastava, and Akhileshendra Pratap Singh—have been arrested for allegedly aiding Shivkumar’s escape. These individuals are accused of providing shelter to the accused and assisting him in fleeing the country.
The police have confirmed that 20 people had been arrested earlier in relation to the case, further illustrating the scale of the investigation into the murder. The authorities continue their efforts to gather more information on the networks behind the crime.
Baba Siddique, known for his influential role in Maharashtra’s politics and as a key figure in the NCP, was shot dead in a targeted attack. The killing has sparked intense political debates and raised concerns about the growing influence of criminal gangs in the state.
As the investigation continues, law enforcement agencies are working diligently to track down other suspects and uncover the full extent of the conspiracy behind the murder.
