Delhi's Minimum Temperature Dips to 6.5 Degrees Celsius as Air Quality Remains 'Very Poor'

Delhi experienced a relatively warmer Sunday, with the mercury soaring to a high of 24.7 degrees Celsius, marking three degrees above the seasonal average. However, despite the mild warmth, the city grappled with ‘very poor’ air quality levels that persisted through the day.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that Delhi’s minimum temperature stood at 6.5 degrees Celsius, two notches below the usual for this time of year. Humidity levels fluctuated between 35 percent and 100 percent, as per the weather bulletin.

The air quality index (AQI) over a 24-hour span, recorded at 4 pm, registered at 331 on Sunday and 354 on the previous day, both dwelling within the ‘very poor’ category. The AQI scale categorizes ‘good’ air quality from zero to 50, ‘satisfactory’ from 51 to 100, ‘moderate’ from 101 to 200, ‘poor’ from 201 to 300, ‘very poor’ from 301 to 400, ‘severe’ from 401 to 450, and ‘severe-plus’ above 450.

The upcoming weather forecast predicts predominantly clear skies on Monday, with a likelihood of shallow fog in the morning hours. Expectations hover around a maximum temperature of 24 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 7 degrees Celsius.

While the city experienced warmer temperatures, the persistently ‘very poor’ air quality remains a concern, urging residents to take necessary precautions. As Delhi prepares for the coming days, authorities continue monitoring the air quality index closely, emphasizing the importance of measures to alleviate pollution levels and promote public health and well-being.
