Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday made an emotional appeal to citizens, urging them to stop throwing food—especially roti—on the roads. Sharing her concern via social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Gupta recounted a recent incident where she stopped a man from throwing bread out of his car window, presumably to feed a cow. She emphasized that such acts not only disrespect food but also pose a threat to road safety and animal lives.
“Roti is not just food for us—it symbolizes our culture, faith, and respect. Throwing it on the road compels cows and other animals to come onto busy streets to eat, which endangers their lives and puts pedestrians and drivers at risk,” Gupta wrote on X.
Highlighting the cultural and spiritual significance of roti in Indian households, the Chief Minister called on citizens to adopt more responsible ways to feed animals. She suggested that people feed cows and other animals in designated places such as gaushalas (cow shelters), rather than public roads.
“This is a sign of our sensitivity, responsibility, and values,” she added, urging everyone to “respect food and keep the roads safe.”
Her appeal also comes with a broader message of maintaining public hygiene and supporting animal welfare without compromising on safety. Gupta reinforced the need for collective responsibility in keeping Delhi’s roads clean and accident-free, stating, “Feed animals lovingly, but do it responsibly.”
Hanuman Jayanti Wishes and Temple Visit
Earlier in the day, Rekha Gupta extended greetings on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti and offered prayers at Sankat Mochan Dham, Siddh Hanuman Mandir in Karol Bagh. Speaking to reporters during her visit, she said, “From Ram Navami to Hanuman Jayanti, people are celebrating with great excitement. As Delhi’s Chief Minister, I feel privileged to share your joys and be by your side in times of need.”
Reaffirming her commitment to building a better Delhi, Gupta added, “With the blessings of Hanuman ji and the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we will take Delhi forward.”
