Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati has made a significant announcement during a rally in Muzaffarnagar, stating that her party will take concrete steps to make western Uttar Pradesh a separate state if BSP comes to power at the Centre. This statement comes amidst the ongoing political landscape in Uttar Pradesh, with various parties gearing up for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Addressing a rally in support of BSP’s candidate Dara Singh Prajapati, Mayawati expressed confidence that the BJP would not return to power this time if free and fair elections are held without any tampering with voting machines. She highlighted the slim chances of the BJP’s victory and emphasized the need for change in governance.
During her speech, Mayawati criticized the BJP government’s focus on benefiting wealthy businessmen at the expense of neglecting the progress of backward communities and the poor. She pointed out the data on electoral bonds, alleging that the BJP and other parties receive support from wealthy businesses, which influences their election campaigns and policies.
Mayawati also raised concerns about the stagnation in progress for Muslims and the lack of benefits for poor people in the general category under the BJP’s rule. She criticized the BJP’s failure to fill vacant posts reserved for backward communities and questioned the effectiveness of reservation policies under the current government.
The BSP chief’s announcement about the potential formation of a separate state in western Uttar Pradesh adds a new dimension to the political discourse in the region. This statement aligns with the BSP’s strategy of addressing regional aspirations and advocating for stronger representation of marginalized communities.
In the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, BSP’s candidate Dara Singh Prajapati will contest against BJP’s Sanjeev Kumar Balyan and Samajwadi Party’s Harendra Singh Malik in the Muzaffarnagar constituency. The first phase of voting in Uttar Pradesh is scheduled for April 19, covering eight parliamentary constituencies.
It’s noteworthy that the BSP had previously allied with the SP in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections but has now decided to contest independently. The political landscape in Uttar Pradesh remains dynamic, with different alliances and parties vying for electoral success in the state’s 80 Lok Sabha seats, the highest in the country.
The outcome of the elections and the subsequent formation of the government at the Centre will determine the course of action regarding Mayawati’s proposal for a separate state in western Uttar Pradesh. The counting of votes is scheduled for June 4, marking a crucial juncture in Indian politics.
