A tragic incident unfolded in Rajasthan’s Sirohi district on Wednesday as three minors drowned in the Banas River after reportedly going for a swim following a game of cricket near the local airstrip. The victims—Chandu (14), son of Rajuram, and two brothers, Galaram (12) and Kalu (10), sons of Bhanaram—were all residents of Manpur village near Abu Road.
According to the police, the boys were last seen playing cricket before heading to the river to bathe. When they did not return home by late evening, their families began searching for them. The search took a serious turn after the children’s clothes and a cricket bat were discovered near the riverbank around 9:30 pm.
A rescue operation was launched immediately with the assistance of a team of divers, along with support from the police and local administration. “The bodies were retrieved after two to three hours of intensive search. All three were found in a deep pit within the river and were rushed to a nearby hospital, where they were declared dead on arrival,” said Harchand Dewasi, Station House Officer (SHO) of Abu Road Police Station.
Postmortem examinations were conducted on Thursday morning, following which the bodies were handed over to the grieving families.
The incident has cast a pall of gloom over the Manpur village, as the community mourns the untimely deaths of the young boys.
