The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a closure report in the high-profile Sushant Singh Rajput death case, officials said on Saturday. The report was submitted before a special court in Mumbai, which will now decide whether to accept it or order further investigation.
CBI Investigation and Findings
The CBI took over the probe in August 2020 from the Bihar Police, which had initially registered an abetment of suicide case based on a complaint filed by the late actor’s father, K K Singh, in Patna. Singh had alleged that actress Rhea Chakraborty, Rajput’s then-girlfriend, along with her family members, misappropriated his son’s money—an accusation that Chakraborty denied in television interviews.
During the course of the investigation, the CBI recorded statements from Chakraborty and several individuals from Rajput’s inner circle, while also reviewing his medical records.
The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), which provided a conclusive medico-legal opinion to the CBI, dismissed claims of “poisoning and strangling” that had surfaced in the case.

Sushant Singh Rajput, 34, was found hanging in his apartment in Bandra, Mumbai, on June 14, 2020. His sudden demise shocked the nation and led to widespread speculation, resulting in multiple investigations by the Mumbai Police, Bihar Police, CBI, Enforcement Directorate (ED), and Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB).
Rajput began his career in television and rose to fame with his role as Manav Deshmukh in Ekta Kapoor’s popular soap opera Pavitra Rishta. He made his Bollywood debut in Abhishek Kapoor’s Kai Po Che and went on to receive widespread acclaim for his portrayal of former Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the biopic M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story.
His notable films include Sonchiriya, Chhichhore, Shuddh Desi Romance, Detective Byomkesh Bakshy!, and PK. His final film, Dil Bechara, directed by Mukesh Chhabra, was released digitally after his passing.
