Baba Siddique Murder Case: Key Accused Gill Used Labourer’s Hotspot to Evade Police Detection, Say Authorities

In a major development in the investigation of the Baba Siddique murder case, Mumbai Police revealed that Akashdeep Gill, the prime suspect arrested in Punjab, communicated with the key conspirators—including the mastermind Anmol Bishnoi—by using a labourer’s mobile hotspot. This method, according to police, was used to evade detection and track the suspects.

Gill, during interrogation, reportedly disclosed that he had used the mobile hotspot of a labourer named Balwinder to avoid being tracked by authorities. The use of the hotspot allowed Gill to appear offline, masking his real location and making it difficult for the police to monitor his communications. Police are currently searching for Gill’s mobile phone, which they believe could hold crucial evidence related to the case.

Baba Siddique, an influential Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader, was shot dead by three assailants on October 12 near the office of his son, MLA Zeeshan Siddique, in Mumbai’s Nirmal Nagar. The murder, which sent shockwaves through the city, is believed to have been orchestrated by a gang led by jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.

In connection with the murder, police have already arrested multiple suspects. Shiva Kumar, the main accused and shooter, along with four other individuals, was taken into custody on November 12. These arrests were made by a joint team of the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) and the Mumbai Crime Branch in Nanpara, Uttar Pradesh.

Further arrests have included Salman Vohra and Akashdeep Singh, who are also implicated in the murder. Vohra is believed to have financed the killing. The Bishnoi gang has publicly claimed responsibility for the attack, and investigations suggest that following Siddique’s murder, another prominent leader from Pune was reportedly on the gang’s radar.

The crime branch also discovered that Shubham Lonkar, another mastermind behind the murder, allegedly had plans to kill Aftab Poonawala—the accused in the notorious Shraddha Walker murder case. Lonkar, reportedly linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, had spent a month in 2022 plotting Poonawala’s murder in Delhi’s Saket court.

Authorities are continuing their search for the remaining suspects and are piecing together the conspiracy that led to the high-profile murder of Baba Siddique.
