“Assam Announces Internet Shutdown to Prevent Cheating in Class-III Recruitment Exam”

Date:

In an effort to ensure the integrity of the upcoming recruitment examination, the Assam government has announced a temporary suspension of mobile internet services across the state. The measure will be in effect on Sunday, from 10 am to 1:30 pm, coinciding with the written examination for Class-III government posts.

The decision to temporarily disable mobile internet was made to prevent online cheating and malpractice during the exam. The Assam government stated that it is “prudent to plug all possible loopholes” to ensure a fair examination process. This step follows observations of previous instances where candidates exploited social media platforms such as Facebook, WhatsApp, X (formerly Twitter), Telegram, and YouTube to aid in cheating.

Logistics and Security Measures

More than 11,00,000 candidates are expected to take part in the examination across 2,305 centers statewide. Of these, 429 centers have been classified as ‘sensitive’ due to their geographical locations and historical issues with cheating and other malpractices. The state’s decision aims to address concerns about potential misuse of internet services during the exam.

The government acknowledged the substantial apprehension that anti-social elements or organized groups might attempt to undermine the examination process through rumor-mongering or other forms of disruption via social media.

Government’s Assurance

The Assam government assured that the internet shutdown is a precautionary measure intended to uphold the fairness and transparency of the examination process. Officials emphasized that the temporary suspension of mobile internet services is crucial in preventing any potential doubts about the recruitment process’s integrity.

Previous Incidents and Future Precautions

The initiative follows similar measures in past examinations and aims to address and rectify issues related to examination malpractices. The government is committed to maintaining a transparent and secure recruitment process and has carefully considered this action to safeguard the examination’s fairness.
