Union Home Minister Amit Shah, during a rally in Seraikela on Monday, outlined a series of actions the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) intends to take if it wins the upcoming Jharkhand Assembly elections. He promised to form a committee to identify and expel what he termed “infiltrators” from the state and vowed to introduce a law preventing the transfer of tribal land to these individuals, particularly those who marry tribal women.
Shah made strong allegations against “infiltrators,” claiming that they were using marriages with tribal women as a means to grab land in the region. “The tribal population is declining in Jharkhand. Infiltrators are grabbing land by marrying our daughters. We will bring legislation to prevent the transfer of land to infiltrators if they marry tribal women. We will also form a committee to identify infiltrators to drive them out and reclaim the land grabbed by them,” said Shah.
His comments were a continuation of the BJP’s rhetoric against land encroachment, which it claims is exacerbated by foreign nationals taking advantage of the state’s laws regarding tribal land ownership. Shah’s speech also included a reference to the resignation of Champai Soren, the former Chief Minister of Jharkhand, who was forced to step down after raising concerns about infiltration in the state.
Shah further criticized the JMM-led (Jharkhand Mukti Morcha) coalition, specifically accusing it of failing to address the issue of land encroachment. He promised that any corrupt leaders associated with the ruling coalition would be sent to jail if the BJP came to power.
Yogi Adityanath Slams JMM Government
Adding to the BJP’s campaign in Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also weighed in with a critical attack on the JMM-led government. In his rally at Bhawnathpur in Garhwa, Adityanath accused the current government of allowing Jharkhand to become a haven for Rohingya Muslims and Bangladeshi infiltrators. He alleged that these groups had been given free rein to spread anarchy and unrest in the state.
“The natural wealth of Jharkhand has been plundered by the JMM government,” Adityanath stated. He further vowed that only the BJP could guarantee security, women’s empowerment, and employment opportunities for the youth of the state. The BJP leader also echoed Shah’s claims about the safety of women, adding that Jharkhand’s daughters were under threat due to issues like “Love Jihad.”
In his speech in Hussainabad, Adityanath went a step further, proposing that the area be renamed ‘Ram Nagar,’ as part of a larger push for what the BJP terms the protection of cultural values in the region.
Polls and Election Campaigning
The Jharkhand Assembly elections are set to take place in two phases on November 13 and 20, with results scheduled to be announced on November 23. The BJP, led by Shah and Adityanath, is making a strong push for a change in government, with the party aiming to capitalize on issues like national security, land protection, and cultural preservation. As the election date draws near, the BJP’s promises and claims are setting the tone for an intense and heated contest.
The outcome of these elections could determine the direction of political and policy decisions in Jharkhand, especially in terms of land laws and the handling of the state’s tribal affairs, as political leaders continue to vie for voter support.
