Nakshrajsinh Sisodiya: Gujarat-Based Fashion Designer Bringing Back the Traditional With a Modern Twist

Fashion has come very far in the past century. Fashion is not just being an indicator of wealth anymore, it has evolved to be a dynamic expression of self, and it has come to define decades, important political movements and brings art to us ordinary people.

Many of us might not visit art galleries and museums frequently but with fashion, we see so much self-expression and art every day.

And when it comes to fashion in India, Nakshrajsinh Sisodiya keeps grabbing headlines with his designs. The couturier and fashion designer recently launched his own label, “Nakshrajsinh Sisodiya – The Label of Luxury”, where he is bringing the traditional to our times. At his label, Nakshrajsinh Sisodiya specialises in making apparels that are distinctly Indian and practical for today’s world.

Sisodiya’s designs have the signature vintage-fusion look; he says, “With technology and the internet, millennials and gen-z are becoming the residents of a global village. And in such an atmosphere, everyone is watching the same thing, eating the same things, and wearing the same things. And what will happen to our individual cultures if we just discard it in favour the new and non-unique?”

“India has such a rich culture, you can keep flipping pages of our history and heritage and you won’t finish the book.” he continues, “It is so essential to preserve it. Have you ever seen how a tree just topples over if the roots aren’t strong? It would be heartbreaking to see our society leave behind our uniqueness in favour of fitting in.”

Stars like Siddharth Nigam and Abhishek Nigam sports Sisodiya’s designs and we will be seeing more of his gorgeous work on the silver screen very soon! Sisodiya has been onboarded as the costume designer in an upcoming period piece. With Sisodiya’s command on vintage designs this endeavour falls right in his ballpark, and we will see a new benchmark being set for period piece costumes when Sisodiya’s work on the film comes out.
