Moving from business leadership to grassroots politics might seem unusual, but for Subham Prakash Singh, it was about taking on more responsibility. His start as an entrepreneur grew into a wider commitment to community, youth involvement, and public life in West Bengal.
Subham began his career as an entrepreneur. As Founder of Knots Footwear, he learned what it takes to build and run a company. Managing the business required planning, teamwork, and making decisions that affected both the company and its people. This experience taught him to lead with structure, careful planning, and accountability.
While growing his business, Subham started thinking about issues beyond just business. Talking with employees, customers, and local communities showed him the daily challenges people face. Many of these challenges, like awareness, representation, or social organization, were linked to civic participation and governance.
This realization began to shape his thinking about leadership.
Subham had already cultivated a strong academic interest in politics and governance. He pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from West Bengal State University and later completed his Master’s degree in Political Science from Indira Gandhi National Open University. His academic studies provided a deeper understanding of India’s political framework, electoral processes, and the role of citizens in democratic institutions.
Yet Subham believed that real political understanding emerges from experience at the grassroots level. Motivated by this belief, he started engaging with local communities and youth groups, participating in initiatives that encouraged civic awareness and social participation.
From 2020 to 2023, he worked with volunteers and community members on local projects focused on getting young people involved and tackling social issues. These experiences helped him connect with youth across the region and strengthened his belief that their participation is vital for a healthy democracy.
During this period, he also founded Hindu Yuva Sena, a youth platform that brought together more than a hundred members who participated in cultural programs, community outreach activities, and social service initiatives. The initiative aimed to create a space where young individuals could contribute to society while developing leadership and organizational skills.
As he got more involved at the grassroots level, Subham took on formal roles in youth political organizations. He is now a District Member of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha and also serves as Co-Convenor for Bardhaman Zilla and Assembly In-Charge for Durgapur Paschim and Purba with Namo Yuva Warriors.
In these positions, Subham coordinates volunteers, improves booth-level organization, and helps communication between grassroots workers and district leaders. He has also worked on district political campaigns, supporting outreach, digital strategies, and youth mobilization.
Observers often note that Subham’s entrepreneurial background continues to influence his political work. Much like in business, he approaches political organization with an emphasis on structure, systematic planning, and team management. His focus is often on building long-term organizational capacity rather than short-term visibility.
Along with his political work, Subham stays active in community projects. Through outreach and programs like Mandir Sashaktikaran Abhiyan, he has worked with temple communities and local groups to build stronger cultural networks and community bonds.
He has also participated in voter awareness efforts and community outreach initiatives involving groups such as the Matua community, emphasizing dialogue and grassroots communication.
For Subham, the move from business to youth mobilizer was not a departure from leadership but a continuation of it. The skills he developed in business—strategic thinking, organization building, and people management—now guide his work in mobilizing young citizens and strengthening grassroots participation.
As young people play a bigger role in Indian politics, Subham’s story shows how leadership can grow in different areas. From running a business to bringing communities together, his path shows that leadership is about serving society.
