Charminar Minaret Plaster Falls Amid Heavy Rains in Hyderabad

Hyderabad witnessed heavy rains and thunderstorms on Thursday, leading to severe traffic congestion, power outages, and damage to infrastructure. A chunk of lime plaster from one of the four minarets of the historic Charminar fell due to the downpour, though no injuries were reported.

City Faces Traffic Jams and Flooding

The pre-monsoon showers, accompanied by gusty winds, brought relief from the heat but severely disrupted daily life. Several areas, including Hyderabad, Secunderabad, and nearby outskirts, experienced waterlogging, making commuting difficult. Vehicular movement under the Malakpet bridge, Raj Bhavan Road, and Telugu Talli flyover near the State Secretariat was completely halted due to flooding.

The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) teams were deployed to clear water stagnation points and remove uprooted trees that had blocked roads. HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath personally inspected affected areas.

Incidents and Rescue Operations

In the Karmanghat area, an under-construction boundary wall collapsed, injuring two people when it fell on an auto-rickshaw. Meanwhile, two individuals stranded at a temple in the Musi River were successfully rescued by HYDRAA and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) teams.

CM Revanth Reddy Orders High Alert

Following the heavy downpour, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy directed officials to remain on high alert and implement relief measures to minimize public inconvenience. He instructed Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari to monitor the situation and coordinate with civic agencies to prevent further disruptions.

The GHMC, HYDRAA, police, and the Energy Department were ordered to work together to resolve waterlogging, traffic congestion, and power supply issues. Special directives were issued to the traffic police to manage roadblocks efficiently so commuters could return home safely.

Officials across the state, including district Collectors and police officers, have also been placed on high alert, with reports of hailstorms and gusty winds affecting multiple districts.

As Hyderabad continues to battle the impact of this unexpected weather, authorities are working to restore normalcy and prevent further damage.
