Jharkhand Heatwave: Seven Districts Cross 40°C, Relief Expected from March 19

Jharkhand is reeling under intense heatwave conditions, with temperatures soaring past 40 degrees Celsius in seven districts, officials said on Sunday.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Chaibasa in West Singhbhum district recorded the state’s highest temperature at 41 degrees Celsius, which is 7.6 degrees above normal. Daltonganj followed closely with 40.7 degrees Celsius, while Bokaro Thermal registered 40.1 degrees Celsius.

Jamshedpur in East Singhbhum also touched 40 degrees Celsius, marking a sharp increase of 6.4 degrees above normal. The state capital, Ranchi, recorded 37 degrees Celsius, exceeding the usual temperature by 6.1 degrees. Meanwhile, Garhwa, Godda, and Pakur also experienced temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius, intensifying the heatwave conditions.

Weather Relief Expected from March 19

The IMD has forecasted a drop in temperature from March 19, with rain and thunderstorms expected to bring relief to the state.

“A Yellow Alert for heatwave has been issued for Seraikela-Kharswan, East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum, Dhanbad, and Bokaro for March 16,” said Ranchi Meteorological Centre’s Deputy Director Abhishek Anand.

The weather department has also predicted light rain on March 19 and 20, followed by light to moderate rainfall on March 21 and 22, due to moisture incursion from the Bay of Bengal and the influence of a western disturbance.

Public Advisory

Authorities have advised residents to avoid stepping outdoors between 12 PM and 3 PM, when the heatwave is at its peak, and to stay hydrated during the extreme weather conditions.

With the possibility of rainfall in the coming days, Jharkhand may soon experience some much-needed relief from the scorching heat.
