The Kashmir Valley witnessed a sharp dip in temperature following fresh rainfall, adding to the winter chill. The temperature in Srinagar dropped to five degrees Celsius, making it significantly colder for residents and tourists alike.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert, forecasting thunderstorms with lightning and heavy rainfall over Jammu and Himachal Pradesh, with hail expected in Punjab. Despite the changing weather, tourists in Kashmir are relishing the experience, particularly in popular destinations like Gulmarg.
Tourists Share Their Experience
Speaking to ANI, Akshay, a tourist from Mumbai, described the chilly conditions. “It is quite cold now. Compared to yesterday, when the weather was a bit clearer, today started with rainfall, making it even colder. We were lucky to witness snowfall in Gulmarg, which was an incredible experience. We stayed there for two days, and the snowfall on February 26-27 was mesmerizing.”
He also shared his experiences of exploring Srinagar, saying, “We enjoyed riding on Dal Lake and staying in a houseboat. It was a wonderful experience, enjoying the local food while surrounded by the beautiful winter scenery. With February ending and March beginning, the weather should become more pleasant, making it a great time to visit.”
Another visitor, Anvita from Vadodara, Gujarat, shared her delight at the wintry conditions. “It is very cold. We are wearing four layers of clothing, yet it’s still freezing. But we are absolutely enjoying it! Staying in a houseboat, taking a Shikara ride for an entire day, and trying the delicious local food made our visit truly memorable.”
Looking ahead, she mentioned, “I checked the weather forecast, and there is a chance of snowfall between March 6 and 13. If that happens, it would be amazing, and I would recommend everyone to visit.”
Winter Tourism Thriving in Kashmir
Despite the cold and occasional weather warnings, Kashmir continues to attract winter tourists. From houseboat stays to Shikara rides and traditional Kashmiri cuisine, visitors are making the most of their trip.
