The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has announced a house tax waiver scheme for the financial year 2024-25, offering substantial relief to Delhi residents. Under this initiative, property owners can clear their current tax dues while having all previous pending taxes written off. The scheme is set to be passed in the MCD House on Tuesday.

Key Announcements

The decision was revealed during a press conference attended by MCD Mayor Mahesh Khichi, Deputy Mayor Ravinder Bhardwaj, Leader of the House Mukesh Goel, and AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led civic body emphasized that this move aims to reduce the financial burden on homeowners and eliminate corruption in tax collection. Durgesh Pathak, AAP’s MCD in-charge, alleged that past administrations misused house tax to extract bribes, leading to financial losses for the MCD. He further stated that MCD employees, who previously faced salary delays, have seen timely payments under the AAP government’s improved financial management.

Who Will Benefit?

The tax relief scheme offers the following exemptions and rebates:

  • Full house tax exemption for properties up to 100 square yards, including residential shops.
  • 50% waiver for homes measuring 100 to 500 square yards.
  • 25% rebate for 1,300 housing societies that previously had no exemptions.

AAP’s Commitment to Public Welfare

At the press conference, Mayor Mahesh Khichi reiterated AAP’s commitment to fulfilling its promises and reducing homeowners’ financial burdens. He also announced that MCD is regularizing 12,000 contractual employees, adding to the 8,000 workers made permanent over the past two years.

Sanjay Singh hailed the tax waiver as a historic decision, stating that it would benefit thousands of families while increasing transparency and reducing corruption in tax collection.
