Mumbai Hit by Heavy Rain: Vistara Flight Rerouted, Police Issue Coastal Area Advisory

Heavy rain and thunderstorms have significantly impacted Mumbai over the weekend, causing widespread waterlogging and traffic congestion. The city faced severe weather conditions on both Saturday and Sunday, prompting the Mumbai Police to issue an advisory urging citizens to avoid coastal areas and limit their movements.

The Mumbai Police advised residents to venture out only if absolutely necessary, emphasizing the importance of taking precautions in light of the ongoing severe weather. “In view of the continuous and heavy rains in Mumbai, citizens are requested to avoid going to coastal areas and move out of their houses only if necessary. Take precautions and Dial 100 in case of emergency,” the advisory stated.

The intense rainfall has also affected air travel. A Vistara flight from Amritsar to Mumbai, UK696, was rerouted to Ahmedabad due to adverse weather conditions at Mumbai Airport. The flight, initially scheduled to land in Mumbai, was redirected to Ahmedabad and is expected to arrive at 12:15 PM local time.

In response to the persistent rainfall, the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai, which is expected to remain in effect until July 24. The forecast predicts temperatures ranging from a high of 29°C to a low of 25°C on Sunday.

The monsoon rains, which arrived six days ahead of the usual schedule, have caused significant disruptions throughout the city. Several roads have been closed, and traffic has been redirected due to extensive flooding. Subways have been submerged, and public transport services have been heavily impacted. Notable areas affected include Dadar, Worli, Parel, Matunga, Mahim, and Prabhadevi, where rainwater has seeped into homes in low-lying areas, causing structural damage.
