The Supreme Court on Friday issued a notice to the Assam and Maharashtra governments on a plea filed by YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani, seeking to quash or transfer FIRs filed against him in connection with the controversy surrounding the YouTube show India’s Got Latent, PTI reported.
Chanchlani approached the top court on Thursday, urging it to either dismiss or move an FIR registered in Guwahati to Mumbai. The case stems from allegations of promoting obscenity on the online show, in which podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, popularly known as BeerBiceps, is the primary accused due to his controversial comments.
Chanchlani’s Legal Plea
As per reports, Chanchlani sought the quashing of an FIR filed at the Cyber Police Station, Police Commissionerate, Guwahati Crime Branch, Assam.
His plea argued that the Assam FIR should be dismissed as it was registered after another FIR in Mumbai over the same matter. Alternatively, he requested that the case be transferred to Mumbai, where an FIR (No. 05 of 2025) was already filed at the Mumbai Police Station Nodal Cyber.
The Gauhati High Court had earlier granted interim bail to Chanchlani while hearing his anticipatory bail petition, directing him to appear before the investigating officer within 10 days. His legal team contended that he had not made any controversial remarks on the show and that the allegations primarily targeted other individuals.

Others Named in the Case
Apart from Allahbadia and Chanchlani, the FIR also includes the names of comedians Samay Raina, Jaspreet Singh, and Apoorva Mukhija, who were involved in the India’s Got Latent show.
The controversy erupted after Allahbadia’s remarks on the show sparked outrage, leading to multiple FIRs. The Supreme Court has already granted protection from arrest to Allahbadia but criticized him for disregarding societal values.
