Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi received an enthusiastic reception upon his arrival in Singapore, where he demonstrated his dhol-playing skills to the delight of the Indian diaspora. Modi landed at Changi Airport early Wednesday morning, where he was greeted by Indian High Commissioner to Singapore Shilpak Ambule, Singapore’s High Commissioner to India Simon Wong, and other officials.
As Modi made his way to his hotel, a vibrant crowd of Indian expatriates welcomed him with traditional performances. Seizing the moment, the Prime Minister tried his hand at the dhol, a traditional Indian drum, showcasing his musical flair and adding to the celebratory atmosphere.
During his visit, PM Modi is scheduled to meet with Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong to review the progress of the India-Singapore Strategic Partnership. The two leaders will discuss regional and global issues of mutual interest. Modi is also expected to meet with Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and engage with local business leaders.
Before arriving in Singapore, Modi concluded an official visit to Brunei. In Bandar Seri Begawan, he met with Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, discussing strategies to enhance bilateral relations between India and Brunei. Modi highlighted the expansion of trade ties, commercial linkages, and people-to-people exchanges in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
Additionally, Modi inaugurated the new Chancery of the High Commission of India in Brunei and visited the Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque. According to Jaideep Mazumdar, Secretary East at the Ministry of External Affairs, Modi’s discussions in Brunei covered a broad range of topics, including defense, trade, investment, space, energy, health, and cultural exchanges.
