Rahul Gandhi Set to Return to Amethi, Priyanka's Electoral Plans Unveiled: UP Congress Chief

The political landscape in Uttar Pradesh is abuzz with anticipation as the Congress Party gears up for the 2024 elections, with an eye-catching line-up of potential candidates. Rahul Gandhi’s resurgence in Amethi and Priyanka Gandhi’s potential electoral plans have taken the spotlight, as UP Congress Chief Ajay Rai provided insights into the party’s strategy during an interview with news agency ANI.

With speculations swirling about the electoral prospects of the Gandhi siblings, Rai confirmed that Rahul Gandhi is set to make a comeback in Amethi, the constituency that he represented in the past. “Rahul Gandhi will definitely contest from Amethi,” Rai asserted, fueling excitement among his supporters. In the 2019 elections, Smriti Irani managed to unseat Rahul from his legacy seat, Amethi, marking a significant political upset.

Ajay Rai also shed light on Priyanka Gandhi’s potential electoral ambitions. Rai stated, “Priyanka Gandhi will contest from wherever she wants,” indicating the party’s flexibility in accommodating her choices. Notably, Rai even mentioned the possibility of Priyanka challenging Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Varanasi, asserting that the party’s workers would rally behind her to secure victory.

When asked about Smriti Irani’s tenure in Amethi, Rai turned the focus on her performance, questioning whether she delivered on her promises to the public. “Ask her whether she could make sugar available at ₹13 per kilo as she had promised. She must answer to the public where did that sugar go,” Rai remarked, hinting at the electorate’s expectations for tangible results.

Rahul Gandhi’s electoral journey has been marked by strategic moves. In the 2019 elections, he contested from both Amethi and Wayanad, successfully winning the latter constituency. However, his Lok Sabha membership was jeopardized due to his conviction in the 2019 Modi surname case. The Supreme Court’s interim stay on his conviction eventually paved the way for his return to active politics.

As the political chessboard in Uttar Pradesh takes shape, Rai’s appointment as the new UP Congress Chief further solidifies the party’s preparations for the upcoming elections. His insights into the party’s potential moves reflect the dynamic strategy that the Congress aims to deploy in its bid to regain ground in the state.

The 2024 Lok Sabha elections promise to be a battleground of fierce contests and strategic political moves. With the Gandhi siblings’ roles taking center stage, the political drama is set to unfold in the heartland of Indian politics, Uttar Pradesh.
