In a surprising yet warmly welcomed development, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra confirmed her marriage to former Biju Janata Dal (BJD) parliamentarian Pinaki Misra. The private ceremony reportedly took place in Germany, drawing widespread congratulations from political leaders and supporters across social media.
Mahua Moitra, who currently represents Krishnanagar in West Bengal in the Lok Sabha, took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to share a photo of the couple cutting a cake, expressing her gratitude for the love and blessings. “Thank you everyone for the love and good wishes!! So grateful,” she wrote, officially acknowledging the union.
Among the first to congratulate the newlyweds was TMC Lok Sabha MP from Jadavpur, Saayoni Ghosh, who posted warm wishes on X. Several other political figures, including West Bengal BJP president and Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar, also extended their congratulations. “I know both of them as fellow MPs. Congratulations to both of them,” Majumdar said. Senior TMC leader Kunal Ghosh joined the chorus of well-wishers.
Mahua Moitra, 50, is a former investment banker turned politician who started her political journey with the Indian Youth Congress before joining TMC in 2010. She is serving her second consecutive term as an MP and had previously been married to Danish financier Lars Brorson. Despite facing political controversies — including her expulsion from the Lok Sabha in 2023 over bribery allegations, which she denied — Moitra won re-election from Krishnanagar in 2024.
Her new spouse, Pinaki Misra, 65, is a senior advocate at the Supreme Court and a veteran BJD leader. He has served four terms as Member of Parliament from Puri, Odisha, and was also previously married.
While some MPs from TMC and BJD said they were unaware of the details of the wedding, the news has nevertheless attracted significant attention across the political spectrum. The marriage of these two prominent and seasoned politicians symbolizes a union that has sparked curiosity and goodwill among their peers and the public alike.
