A tragic incident unfolded in Odisha’s Jajpur district as a Kolkata-bound bus plunged from the Barabati bridge on National Highway-16, resulting in the loss of five lives and leaving several others injured. The mishap occurred on Monday evening when the bus, carrying 40 passengers and traveling from Puri to Kolkata, met with the unfortunate accident.

According to police reports, the bus fell from the bridge around 9 pm, leading to a devastating outcome that claimed the lives of five individuals, including a woman. The injured passengers have been rushed to nearby medical facilities for treatment, where they are receiving necessary medical attention.

The rescue operation is currently underway at the accident site, with authorities working diligently to provide aid to the victims and ensure their safety. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed his condolences for the lives lost in the tragic incident and announced a compensation of ₹3 lakh each for the families who have suffered the loss of a loved one.
